Metallica readies EP as documentary heads to theaters
Metallica follows the theatrical release of the band documentary "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster" with an EP of the same name.
Set for release on July 13, the EP will feature six live Metallica classics that were recorded on June 11, 2003, in Paris--"The Four Horsemen," "Damage, Inc.," "Leper Messiah," "Motorbreath," "Ride the Lightning" and "Hit the Lights"--as well as two versions of the EP's title-track, which first appeared on the group's 2003 full-length, "St. Anger." One version will be that taken from the album; the other is a fully remixed version prepared by the group's longtime producer, Bob Rock.
The enhanced CD will also include two movie trailers used to promote the "Some Kind of Monster" documentary.
A limited-edition version of the EP will be bundled with a T-shirt emblazoned with the documentary's movie-poster artwork.
Directed by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, "Some Kind of Monster" is due to hit theaters in New York and California on July 9, and will arrive in additional states throughout the summer; a detailed list of cities and roll-out dates is posted at Metallica's website.
The film "offers a revealing behind-the-scenes look at Metallica as they confront personal demons and their relationships with each other," according to a press release.
Detailed information about the documentary--including streaming-video excerpts--are available at the film's website.
