Tour rolls on for bluesman Jonny Lang
Jonny Lang keeps up a busy tour schedule this summer as he continues to back his first new album in five years.
Lang, who is already on the road, has a non-stop stretch of shows lined up through the end of July, and has also penciled in a handful of August and September dates. Tickets for a number of shows are on sale now.
The jaunt supports last October's "Long Time Coming," which is the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 1998 album, "Wander This World." Lang took a more hands-on approach for the new set; the singer/guitarist wrote or co-wrote all but one of the album's tracks, and co-produced the collection.
Helping Lang with production duties was producer Marti Fredrickson (Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, Faith Hill), whom Lang said proved to be a valuable critic during the recording process.
"[On previous albums] I could just play whatever, solo or whatever, little guitar riffs between vocal lines and be like, 'okay, cool, we'll just keep that,'" Lang said in a statement. "But when I was in the studio with Marti I'd play something and he'd be like, 'That sucks. You can do better than that.' Of course I'm getting all offended. But after a while I just really grew to just love him for that because I learned I'm the kind of person who should be produced."
Lang's website is streaming four songs from "Long Time Coming": "Red Light," "Dying to Live," "Beautiful One" and "Give Me Up Again."
In 1997, Lang gained notoriety with his major-label debut, "Lie to Me." Critics frequently noted that the then-teenage artist possessed an unexpectedly mature-sounding vocal delivery.
