Fundraising concerts for Kerry called off after Reagan's death
Fundraising concerts that were scheduled to take place in Los Angeles and New York City this week to raise money for the presidential campaign of Sen. John Kerry have been called off due to the death of former President Ronald Reagan.
Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond were scheduled to perform at an event on Monday night (6/7) at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Actor/comic Billy Crystal was also scheduled to appear
James Taylor , Bette Midler and Bon Jovi --as well as actors Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg--were scheduled to appear at a Thursday (6/10) fundraiser at New York's Radio City Music Hall.
The New York Times reported that the concerts had been expected to raise "several million dollars" for Kerry's campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
Kerry has canceled all of his campaign events for the coming week in respect to Reagan, who died Saturday (6/5) of pneumonia, a complication of Alzheimer's disease. He was 93.
