Black Crowes guitarist books gigs, readies solo debut

Rich Robinson , best known as the guitarist and chief songwriter for The Black Crowes , precedes the release of his forthcoming solo album with a three-city residency.

From June 29 through July 22, Robinson will log some major miles in the Northeast as he makes several rotations through New York City, Philadelphia and the Boston area. He'll play multiple, non-consecutive shows at one club in each city, for a total of four nights in New York City and the Boston area, and three nights in Philadelphia. Details are shown below.

The shows will feature Robinson performing material from his solo debut, "Paper," which lands in stores on Aug. 24. The album is a true solo effort; Robinson wrote all of the music and lyrics, sang all of the lead and background vocals, played all of the guitar and bass parts, and contributed percussion and keyboard parts.

"I named the album 'Paper' because this is all a blank sheet of paper to me; it's fragile and new," Robinson said in a statement. "For 15 years, I wrote for [brother and Black Crowes lead-singer] Chris' voice, but this is for me."

Robinson, who recorded the set in New York City, will also handle the album's artwork.

"The cover of the album is going to be an oil-on-canvas painting of mine," he said. "I've been painting off and on for 12 to 13 years."

Robinson's touring plans will extend beyond the currently confirmed club shows; the singer/guitarist will be on the road throughout the summer, backed by a three-piece band whose members have not yet been announced, according to his publicist.

Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson is also mounting a solo tour this summer.
