Briefly: Phish, Janet Jackson, Elvis Presley, The Bee Gees
Longtime Phish lyricist Tom Marshall, who currently leads the band Amfibian , has issued a statement in reaction to Phish's recently announced break-up plans.
"Of course I'm sad that Phish is breaking up; it's the end of an incredible era in so many ways," he said. "However, I'm extremely proud and happy for them and more relieved, really, than anything. It's great that they were able to walk away and end on a positive note, because the potential for other unhappier endings seemed to be increasing."
Amfibian issued a new album titled "From the Ether" earlier this year.
A judge in Utah has thrown out a lawyer's $5,000 false advertising claim against Viacom, which he filed in small-claims court after Janet Jackson 's bare breast was exposed during this year's Super Bowl halftime show.
According to an Associated Press report, attorney Eric Stephenson claimed CBS-TV, which is owned by Viacom, led him to believe that the halftime show would be a "family oriented, patriotic celebration."
Viacom's attorneys reportedly argued that the Stephenson should have filed a federal lawsuit or complained to the Federal Communications Commission, which continues to investigate the halftime show.
A specially created, 100-minute edition of Elvis Presley 's "'68 Comeback Special" will debut at 42 Regal Entertainment Group movie theaters on June 21, a day before the deluxe edition DVDs "Elvis: '68 Comeback Special" and "Elvis, Aloha from Hawaii," hit stores.
More information, including a list of theaters showing the film, is posted at Regal's website.
Barry and Robin Gibb, the surviving members of The Bee Gees , were made Commanders of the Order of the British Empire during a Thursday (5/27) ceremony at London's Buckingham Palace. Adam Gibb, son of late Bee Gees member Maurice Gibb, accepted the honor on his father's behalf.
Maurice Gibb died in January 2003.
