Celine Dion back on stage in Las Vegas after injury
Celine Dion 's Las Vegas production, which went dark for two weeks while the star recovered from a sprained muscle in her neck, returned to action on Wednesday (5/26) after a two-week hiatus.
"I know I don't have to talk to you about the last two weeks ... because I could talk for hours," Dion told the crowd on Wednesday, according to a press release. "But things happen and sometimes we get injured. I've missed being here, I've missed you and I wanted to take a moment to thank you for giving us the privilege to perform for you tonight."
The French-Canadian singer debuted her Las Vegas show, dubbed "A New Day ... featuring Celine Dion," in March of 2003, and played on about 150 nights during her inaugural year at The Colosseum, a venue at Caesar's Palace built specifically for the production.
The production, which plays Wednesdays through Sundays during select weeks, ranked second on concert-industry magazine Pollstar's year-end list of 2003's top-grossing live acts, taking in $80.5 million. Tickets for Dion's shows through September are currently on the market.
Show creator Franco Dragone described the production in a statement: "Our goal with this project is to create a unique spectacle of song, theater, dance and state-of-the-art technology. I see Celine as a satellite who captures images. She will use the stage to create her own universe and share it intimately with the audience. ... We hope to heighten and intensify the senses so that each spectator leaves the show seeing more than they did the day before."
