Briefly: Mudvayne, Charley Pride, Beyonce, Sonic Youth, Old 97's
Mudvayne has tapped Dave Fortman (Superjoint Ritual, Evanescence) to produce its third album, which is expected to hit stores this fall, according to Epic Records.
"We've been extremely fortunate to work with some amazing producers," frontman Chad Gray said in a statement. "Garth Richardson captured the band's raw energy on the first record and David Bottrill gave our music a three-dimensional quality on the second record. For this record, we asked Dave Fortman to produce because we wanted someone who can bring both of those elements together into a sound that's brutal and beautiful."
Doctors expect country singer Charley Pride--who underwent brain surgery on Saturday (5/8) after suffering severe headaches and remains hospitalized-- to recover fully.
According to his publicist, Pride was hospitalized on May 6 and underwent emergency surgery for a subdural hematoma--a blood clot that collects between the brain and skull--two days later.
Pride has since moved from an intensive-care unit at an undisclosed hospital to a private room. A four-to-six week recovery time is expected.
Beyonce Knowles has announced a joint venture with apparel designers and marketers Arthur and Jason Rabin that will lead to a new Beyonce fashion label. The R&B singer and her mother, Tina, "will play an active role in the creative direction and inspiration for the collections," according to a press release.
The Rabins head up Wear Me Apparel/Kids Headquarters, which creates merchandise for the Kenneth Cole, Timberland, Rocawear, Skechers U.S.A., Nickelodeon and Disney brands, among others.
A new Sonic Youth DVD titled "Corporate Ghost - The Videos: 1990-2002," which collects all of the group's official music videos along with commentary and other previously unreleased bonuses, is set for release on June 8. The band's 19th album, "Sonic Nurse," hits stores the same day.
Old 97's issue their sixth album, "Drag It Up," on July 27, according to the band's official website. The set is the band's first for new label New West Records.
