A stagehand suffered fatal injuries in a fall from a lighting rig at Miami's James L. Knight Center on Thursday (5/6), a short time before David Bowie was to perform.
According to published reports, the man apparently fell while climbing a chain ladder toward the back of the stage, and landed on his head. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Bowie's performance was canceled, and will not be rescheduled, according to promoters.
"David Bowie and his touring company are deeply saddened by the news of this tragic accident and send their sincerest condolences and thoughts to the stagehand's family and friends," said a statement issued on Thursday night.
Sting , who is suffering from laryngitis, has canceled three upcoming U.K. concerts: Friday (5/7) in Newcastle, England; Saturday (5/8) in Manchester, England; and Sunday (5/9) in Glasgow, Scotland.
Last week, he postponed shows in five European cities due to the same ailment. The outing is expected to resume on Wednesday (5/12) in Birmingham, England.
Phil Spector 's attorneys have released to reporters a coroner's report that they say indicates that the woman who was shot to death at the legendary producer's home in February of 2003 may have fired the weapon herself.
The report, which nevertheless classifies the death as a homicide, said that the woman, Lana Clarkson, had gunshot residue on both hands, and that she was shot with a gun inside her mouth.
Spector was arrested immediately after the shooting, and was charged with murder several months later. He remains free on $1 million bail.
