Briefly: We Are the Future, Latin Grammys, Jam Cruise 3, Mark Chesnutt
Several media outlets have signed on to broadcast Quincy Jones' upcoming We Are the Future benefit concert, which will feature performances by Jay-Z , Norah Jones , Eve , Alicia Keys, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban and many others.
According to a press release, Yahoo! will cybercast the entire concert, which will originate from Rome's Circo Massimo on May 16. XM Satellite Radio will broadcast the entire concert, while MTV Italy will air the four-hour show live. A two-hour version of the concert will be aired later on various other MTV channels around the world.
Proceeds from the free concert's broadcast and related merchandise sales will benefit various We Are the Future projects, including the creation of child centers in six cities worldwide. The centers will provide children with humanitarian services and care, as well as access to resources and training in health, nutrition, technology, sports, and the arts, according to a press release.
The Latin Grammys, which took place in Miami in 2003, will return to Los Angeles this year. The event is set for Sept. 1 at the Shrine Auditorium, and will be broadcast on CBS-TV. Nominees will be announced on July 14.
The four-day Jam Cruise 3 will set sail from Jacksonville, FL, on Jan. 6, 2004, and will feature more than 30 performances by fifteen bands, according to a press release.
Confirmed acts so far include Galactic , Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9), Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit, Ozomatli, North Mississippi Allstars, Peter Rowan & Tony Rice, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, Umphrey's McGee, MOFRO, Benevento/Russo Duo and DJ Logic.
Country music veteran Mark Chesnutt has signed with the new Vivation label, and is at work with producer Jimmy Ritchey on a new album that is tentatively set for release on Sept. 21.
