N.E.R.D. gets crowds moving during summer tour dates
N.E.R.D. backs its sophomore release, "Fly or Die," with a batch of shows that includes headlining stops, festival appearances and opening performances for Dave Matthews Band.
All but one of the trio's currently scheduled North American dates are set in July, including five shows with Dave Matthews Band and a performance at the July 31 Rolling Rock Town Fair in Pennsylvania. A handful of headlining club shows round out the schedule. Details appear below.
The group is also due to perform at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, on May 15 as part of radio station KIIS's Wango Tango Music Festival, and will then head across the pond for a European outing that precedes the North American run.
N.E.R.D. is the side project of production duo The Neptunes , a.k.a. Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo; a third member known only as Shay rounds out the lineup.
Released in March, "Fly or Die" is the follow-up to the trio's 2002 debut, "In Search Of." The new album features the hit single "She Wants to Move," which is streaming at the band's website.
Unlike "In Search Of"--on which all of the music was programmed--"Fly or Die" features Williams and Hugo playing live instruments.
"We've always played our own instruments in everything we do, but we convert them into programming for the final tracks," Hugo said in a press release. "For 'Fly or Die,' we decided to pick up the instruments and play ourselves and leave it like that. It's more honest and people don't know this side to us yet."
