Hanson backs new album with summer tour

With its long-delayed album "Underneath" now in stores, sibling trio Hanson hits the road this summer.

The outing in Myrtle Beach, SC, on July 5, and dates are set through early August. So far, the itinerary focuses primarily on the Northeast and the Midwest. More dates are expected.

The run follows the April 20 release of "Underneath," which was originally due out last fall, but was delayed after the band--which split with Island/Def Jam in early 2003--decided to launch its own label, dubbed 3CG, and release the album independently.

The set sold more than 37,000 copies during its first week out, and debuted at No. 25 on The Billboard 200 album chart.

Some cuts on the new album will be familiar to fans who caught the brothers during their 2003 acoustic tour, during which they showcased material from the new set. At each show, the trio sold an acoustic EP titled "Underneath Acoustic," which features unplugged versions of several tracks found on the recently released full-length.

"Underneath" is Hanson's first studio set since 2000's "This Time Around." Musicians who collaborated with the Hanson brothers on the new album include Matthew Sweet, Carole King, Greg Alexander (New Radicals), Ed Robertson (Barenaked Ladies) and Michelle Branch.

Hanson scored its commercial breakthrough with its 1997, bubble-gum hit "MMMBop." At that time, Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson were 16, 13 and 11 years old, respectively.
