Student symphony to back Elton John on New York City dates

Elton John , his band and a full symphony orchestra are set to play five July shows at New York's Radio City Music Hall.

The shows are scheduled for July 13, 14, 16, 17 and 18, and tickets are scheduled to go on sale to the general public on May 3, according to promoters.

The symphony and choir will comprise students of London's Royal Academy of Music and New York's Julliard School. At least some of the shows will be filmed by the Bravo cable network for a future television special.

John will donate proceeds from the July 13 show to the Royal Academy of Music, the Elton John Musical Scholarship and a Julliard scholarship fund.

"As a scholarship student at the Royal Academy of Music in London, the solid classical training was the key to my success and the amazing career that I have enjoyed," John said in a statement.

The vast majority of John's U.S. concert dates this year will take place at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. John's Las Vegas production--which was designed and directed by photographer and director David LaChappelle--is titled "The Red Piano."

The Colosseum is the 4,100-seat room built for singer Celine Dion, who began a multi-year residence at the venue earlier this year. John's performances take place on nights that Dion's show is dark.
