Briefly: Foo Fighters, Cake, Orbital, Mellowdrone, LeAnn Rimes
Alt-rockers Foo Fighters are scheduled to play three festival dates and a one-off club gig in late April and early May.
The band's itinerary includes an April 30 appearance at Nashville River Stages; a May 1 gig at Atlanta's Midtown Music Festival; and a May 2 show at the Beale Street Music Festival.
On May 5, the group is set to play an already sold-out show at Howlin' Wolf in New Orleans.
Cake has set a pair of Northeastern gigs for next week: on Monday (4/26) at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City and on Tuesday (4/27) at the Middle East in Boston.
U.K.-based electronica act Orbital will play its final English performances on June 25 at Brixton Academy and on June 27 at the Glastonbury Festival, according to the duo's website.
Brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll have also announced that their upcoming June Orbital release, "Blue Album," will be their last.
"Go Get 'Em Tiger," the second EP from moody, Los Angeles-based rock act Mellowdrone, has been issued by frontman/guitarist Jonathan Bates' indie label Los Feliz Records.
While Mellowdrone's debut, "A Demonstration of Intellectual Property," was entirely the work of Bates, he's now filled out the band with bassist Greg Griffith, guitarist Tony De Matteo and drummer Scott Ellis.
LeAnn Rimes will perform on this year's final episode of the USA Network's talent-search program "Nashville Star," which airs live from Music City on May 1 at 10 p.m. ET, according to a press release.
The finale will also feature performances by the program's three final contestants--who will be chosen from among George Canyon, 33, from Nova Scotia; Brad Cotter, 33, from Auburn, AL; Matthew Lindahl, 29, from Snellville, GA; and Lance Miller, 33, from Fairfield, IL--as well as the eight contestants who were eliminated earlier this season.
The winning contestant will receive a recording contract with Sony Nashville.
