The Cure locks down summer release date for new album

The Cure has nailed down a June 22 release date for its first new studio album in four years.

The as-yet-untitled set, which is the follow-up to 2000's "Bloodflowers," is the band's 13th album, and marks its first release for Geffen imprint I Am Records, with whom the band recently signed. I Am Records label-head Ross Robinson produced the set.

The group will hype the upcoming release with an April 30 performance on "The Tonight Show," and a May 2 headlining set at the Coachella Festival in Indio, CA.

Founding singer Robert Smith continues to front the group, which also features bassist Simon Gallup, guitarist Perry Bamonte, drummer Jason Cooper and keyboardist Roger O'Donnell; the lineup has been intact since 1994.

In addition to working on the new album, Smith has stayed busy of late with several other pursuits; he contributed vocals to the song "All of This" on Blink-182's latest album, to "Truth Is" on the new Tweaker album, and to the dance cut "Da Hype" with Junior Jack.

Smith co-founded The Cure in 1976. The U.K. group broke through on the U.S. alternative scene with hits such as "Just Like Heaven," "Lovesong" and "Friday I'm in Love."

Earlier this year, Fiction Records issued The Cure's "Join the Dots: B-sides & Rarities 1978-2001," a four-disc, 70-song box set.
