Keith Urban follows opening slot on Chesney tour with headlining run

Currently holding down a support slot on Kenny Chesney's tour, Australian country singer Keith Urban will soon head out on his own.

Urban wraps up his stint with Chesney on May 22 in Jackson, MS, then kicks off his headlining run with a May 29 performance in Montgomery, AL. Dates so far are scheduled through late August.

Urban's plans also include a May 2 headlining performance in Virginia during an off night from Chesney's tour, and an April 21 appearance at the CMT 2004 Flame Worthy Video Music Awards.

In addition to performing at the ceremony, Urban is also vying for awards in the Video of the Year ("You'll Think of Me") and Hottest Video of the Year ("Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me") categories. The ceremony will air live on CMT.

"Golden Road," Urban's platinum-certified, sophomore set, surfaced last year. The singer self-produced half of the album, and co-produced the other half.

"I'm a little more comfortable in [the producer's] role," he said during an interview with liveDaily last year. "I love being in the studio. It's something I've always loved doing. I'm not one of the artists who comes in and just does my bit. I'm there every second of every day. That's my hands-on situation."
