Counting Crows add some U.S. shows to summer schedule

Counting Crows so far have focused their 2004 touring efforts outside the U.S., but that will change in late June, when the Adam Duritz-led pop-rockers open a tour focusing on outdoor venues in California and Nevada.

In July, the group performs at Camp Jeep festivals in California and Virginia, two off-road themed events sponsored by the auto maker.

So far this year, Counting Crows have played dates in Europe and South Africa, with more European shows ahead. A planned tour of Australia was called off last month after Duritz's grandmother died at age 94, but more European dates are planned for mid-June.

Among the upcoming European dates is a June 20 appearance at London's Fleadh festival, which Bob Dylan headlines.

Counting Crows continue to back last year's "Films About Ghosts," a collection of previously released hits from the group's four studio albums. Also included is the hard-to-find track "Einstein on the Beach," a cover of The Grateful Dead's "Friend of the Devil" and the new original song "She Didn't Want Nobody Near."

The group's most-recent studio release is 2002's "Hard Candy," which spawned the band's hit version of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi." Vanessa Carlton guests on the cut.
