Eric Clapton to mount North American tour this summer

Guitar great Eric Clapton has mapped out a two-month tour of North America that supports his recently released album, "Me and Mr. Johnson."

The run begins with Clapton's June 6 performance with Doyle Bramhall II at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas. Following the festival, Clapton sets out on his own, beginning with a June 9 stop in Oklahoma City, and wrapping up with an Aug. 2 engagement at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

On March 30, Clapton issued "Me and Mr. Johnson," a set that features Clapton's renditions of works that Mississippi blues master Robert Johnson originally recorded in the 1930s.

"Now, after all these years, [Johnson's] music is like my oldest friend, always in the back of my head, and on the horizon," Clapton said in a statement. "It is the finest music I have ever heard. I have always trusted its purity, and I always will."

The three-day Crossroads Guitar Festival runs June 4-6, and will also feature performances from Larry Carlton, Robert Cray, Vince Gill, Buddy Guy, David Hidalgo, Eric Johnson, B.B. King, Sonny Landreth, Brian May, John Mayer, Pat Metheny, Otis Rush, Carlos Santana, Neal Schon, Hubert Sumlin, James Taylor, Dan Tyminski, Steve Vai, Jimmie Vaughan, Joe Walsh, ZZ Top and others.

Proceeds will benefit the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, as will sales from the June 24 Crossroads Guitar Auction. Hosted by New York-based auction house Christie's, the auction will feature more than 50 guitars that Clapton once owned, as well as guitars from other artists such as Pete Townshend and Steve Vai.
