The Oxygen Network will air eight hours of live original programming--from 2 p.m. through 10 p.m. on May 18--to celebrate the release of Alanis Morissette [ tickets ]'s forthcoming album, "So-Called Chaos."

According to a press release, the network will preempt all regular programming to follow Morissette around New York City, "giving viewers an inside look into the life of the singer, songwriter and musician--as she goes about her promotional activities on the day of the album's release, details of which will be announced in the coming weeks."

Pearl Jam [ tickets ] will be honored with the 2004 IMPACT Award, in recognition of the band's "significant contributions to both the Northwest's rich musical legacy and the international music community," according to the band's official website.

The April 9 event is expected to mark the band's first live performance of 2004.

Orange County, CA's Lit [ tickets ] returns with a new, self-titled album on June 22. The first 100,000 units will include a free, limited-edition DVD that features previously unreleased live footage and other exclusive material.

Jesus Mezquia, a 49-year-old Cuban-born man living in Florida, was convicted last week on charges of first-degree murder for the 1993 death of Mia Zapata, lead singer of Seattle-based post-punk band The Gits [ tickets ]. A sentencing date hasn't been announced; Mezquia faces 20 years to life in prison.

Mezquia was linked to the murder through DNA evidence. Zapata was strangled to death with the pull-cord from her sweatshirt on July 7, 1993. Her body was found on a central Seattle street.

Limp Bizkit [ tickets ] has backed out of a planned tour of South Africa "due to undisclosable personal reasons," according to the group's official website.

The group was scheduled to perform in Cape Town on Sunday (4/4) and in Johannesburg on Tuesday (4/6).
