Morrissey, Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth lead revamped Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza returns in 2004 with a new, two-day format and a lineup that sports Morrissey , The Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth , among others.

Modest Mouse, The String Cheese Incident and The Polyphonic Spree also have claimed spots on the bill, and other acts will be announced, according to organizers. The itinerary and ticket on-sale information hasn't been announced.

Said tour co-founder Perry Farrell in a statement: "This summer, Lollapalooza will embody the spirit of the gypsy! Our buses of artisans sleeping over in each and every city will spread the sense of exhilaration. The days and nights will be filled with mischief."

Jane's Addiction, the band Farrell fronts, isn't expected to have a spot on this year's event.

As usual, each Lollapalooza stop will feature an area where festival-goers can get information on various political causes and see demonstrations of new technology. Organizers also promise lower ticket prices this year.

The first Lollapalooza took place in 1991, and the traveling festival continued annually through 1997. After a five-year break, the tour was revived in 2003 with a lineup that featured Jane's Addiction, Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus, Audioslave, A Perfect Circle and The Donnas.
