Briefly: PJ Harvey, Jan Barry, Howie Day, The Roots, Kittie
"Uh Huh Her," the seventh album from British alt-rocker PJ Harvey, is scheduled to hit North American stores on June 8, a week after it's on the shelves in the U.K.
The set is Harvey's first since 2000's "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea," which won the U.K.'s 2001 Mercury Music Prize.
According to an announcement on Harvey's official website, she wrote, performed, recorded, mixed and produced the new album. Some additional recording was done by Head and Harvey's longtime collaborator Rob Ellis. Ellis played drums and percussion, but Harvey played all of the other instruments on the set.
Jan Berry of surf-rock duo Jan & Dean died on Friday (3/26) after he suffered a seizure at home and stopped breathing, according to published reports. He was 62.
Berry reportedly had been in poor health of late, in part due to complications related to the brain damage he suffered in a 1966 car crash. After a lengthy period of rehabilitation, Berry was able to write songs and perform again.
Among Jan & Dean's best-known hits were "Surf City," "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena" and "Deadman's Curve."
Singer-songwriter Howie Day was arrested on disorderly conduct charges following a Friday (3/26) performance at Dane Country Coliseum in Madison, WI, for allegedly trapping a woman "in a bathroom on his tour bus because she rejected his advances," according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
Day, who was the opening act for Barenaked Ladies, was also charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property for allegedly breaking another woman's cell phone when she tried to call 911.
He was released from jail after posting $850 bail, but reportedly will not appear on Barenaked Ladies' remaining tour dates.
The Roots issue a new album titled "The Tipping Point" on June 29, according to Geffen Records. Among the guests who make cameos are Jean Grae, Devin the Dude, Martin Luther, Captain Kirk Douglas and comedian Dave Chappelle.
The first single from the Scott Storch-produced set is titled "Don't Say Nothin'."
It took all-female rock group Kittie just three weeks to knock out its third album, which will hit stores this summer, according to Artemis Records.
"Making this record was definitely a challenge because we had three weeks to record an album that should take two months, but nonetheless it has turned out amazing," producer Steve Thompson said in a statement. "The basic tracks on this record were recorded onto two-inch analog tape. ... We did very little digital editing."
"I loved how we were all able to play all together everyday to record the songs," bassist Jennifer Arroyo added. "I've never been in a situation like that and I think it’s the way to go because of the feel you get."
