Prince unveils second leg of U.S. tour, sets 'Musicology' release date

Prince , who recently joined the ranks of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has added a summer leg to his upcoming tour, which launches this weekend.

The outing kicks off in Reno, NV, on Saturday (3/27), and previously announced dates run through early May. A short break follows before a new string of shows begins in late May. Dates so far stretch into late August, and include a three-night run at New York City's Madison Square Garden, as well as a return, two-night engagement at Los Angeles' Staples Center. Other cities hosting two-night stands include Las Vegas, Boston and Philadelphia. Details are shown below.

Tickets for almost all of the dates are on sale now.

The tour will mark the final time that Prince will perform some of his most well-known hits, according to a press release. During a press conference last month, the artist said that he plans to stop performing the songs so that he can have time to play different material.

Arenas hosting the tour will be configured for an "in-the-round" performance, with the stage placed in the center of the venue, according to organizers.

Backing Prince on the tour is his New Power Generation band, featuring John Blackwell (drums), Greg Boyer (trombone), Candy Dulfer (saxophone), Chance Howard (trumpet), Renato Neto (piano and synthesizers), Maceo Parker (saxophone) and Rhonda Smith (bass).

The tour supports Prince's forthcoming album "Musicology," which will initially be available on March 29 via his NPG Music Club website. Plans are in the works for retail outlets to carry the album as well; Billboard.com reports that Prince has cut a deal with Columbia Records. No word yet on when Columbia will get the album into stores.

Earlier this month, Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
