Sleater-Kinney sets up spring shows as work on new album continues
Indie-rockers Sleater-Kinney take a break from the studio this spring for a round of club and theater dates.
The female trio has lined up two stretches of dates that run from April 21-30 and May 14-25. The Thermals will open the April dates, and Quasi will open the May dates, according to Sleater-Kinney's website.
In a note posted at the site, the band addresses the relatively short length of the outing.
"Why are the tours so brief? Because we are writing songs and getting ready to record. More extensive U.S. and overseas tours will commence once the new album is out. Sorry if we won't be in your city this time around."
The forthcoming album--for which no release date is set--will be the follow-up to 2002's "One Beat."
Singer Corin Tucker, guitarist Carrie Brownstein and drummer Lora McFarlane founded Sleater-Kinney--named after a freeway exit in Olympia, WA--in 1994. The group released its self-titled debut in 1995, and a follow-up set, titled "Call the Doctor," in 1996.
McFarlane left after the second album surfaced, and current drummer Janet Weiss took her place. The albums "Dig Me Out" and "The Hot Rock" followed in 1997 and 1999, respectively.
