Madonna to hit the road for the first time in three years
After months of speculation, it's now official: Madonna will take to the road later this year.
"I'm happy to confirm the rumors," the pop diva's manager, Caresse Henry, said in a statement. "Madonna will be going out on tour this spring and summer."
The outing is set to launch in Los Angeles on May 24, and will focus on major markets. A dozen North American dates are confirmed so far, along with appearances in London and Paris. Plans are in the works for additional shows in Israel, Ireland, and more dates will be announced, according to a press release.
"Madonna has already started rehearsals for 'The re-Invention Tour,' and she can't wait to get back on stage to recreate her songs from the earliest days of her career up until the present," Henry's statement continued. "There is no doubt that this tour will be the pinnacle of her long standing and well deserved reputation as one of the most exciting live performers of our time."
Ticket on-sale information wasn't available at press time, but members of Madonna's Icon fan club will get early access to tickets via an online presale, according to Madonna's camp. More information is available at Madonna's website.
Madonna last toured in 2001, an outing that grossed $54.7 million from just 28 North American dates, according to concert industry trade magazine Pollstar.
According to her publicist, Madonna has sold more than 250 million albums during the course of her two-decade career, and has charted more Top 10 singles than any female artist.
