Forthcoming Who collection to feature two new tracks

A March 30 release date is set for "The Who --Then & Now," an album that features 18 of the storied British Invasion group's best-known tracks from 1965 through 1981, as well as the first new Who studio recordings in 22 years.

The two new songs--"Real Good Looking Boy," a tribute to Elvis Presley, and "Old Red Wine"--were penned by guitarist Pete Townshend and feature lead vocals by Roger Daltrey. In a press release, Townshend said the tracks mark the return of the group to the studio in "our 'new' Everly Brothers format." Founding Who bassist John Entwistle died last year.

Townshend and Daltrey plan to continue to record over the next few months, an effort that is expected to result in the first new Who studio album since 1982's "It's Hard."

On "Real Good Looking Boy," Townshend and Daltrey are joined by guitarist Simon Townshend (Pete's brother), longtime Who keyboardist John "Rabbit" Bundrick, and drummer Zak Starkey, as well as bassist Greg Lake. Pino Palladino, who played bass on the 2002 tour after the death of Entwistle, didn't play on the session because he was playing on the Simon and Garfunkel tour, according to a press release.

Other tracks on the album are "I Can't Explain," "My Generation," "The Kids Are Alright," "Substitute," "I'm a Boy," "Happy Jack," "I Can See For Miles," "Magic Bus," "Pinball Wizard," "See Me, Feel Me," "Summertime Blues," "Behind Blue Eyes," "Won't Get Fooled Again," "5:15," "Love, Reign O'er Me," "Squeeze Box," "Who Are You," and "You Better, You Bet"

The Who is expected to tour again in 2004; among the band's stops will be a headlining gig at the U.K.'s Isle of Wight Festival.
