Dave Matthews Band 'developing plan' for July 4 fest in New York

The Dave Matthews Band may stage an Independence Day-weekend event in the New York City area, and is asking fans for input.

Late last year, the group asked fans to provide their views about a possible Dave Matthews Band festival by filling out a survey that was posted on its official website. Among the questions the survey asked were whether fans would be interested in attending such a festival, and the time and location they'd most like it to take place.

"As determined by the survey, the No. 1 choice for a festival location is the New York City metropolitan area and the July 4th weekend being a clear winner as a favorite date," the group said in a statement last week. "We are pleased to report that we are developing a plan for an event at a unique site in the NYC metropolitan area for the Saturday and Sunday of the July 4th weekend."

The group is again asking for feedback via an online survey to determine whether it should go forward with the plan.

Dave Matthews Band signed a new contract with longtime label RCA Records last month, and is currently starting work on a new studio album. No release date has been announced.

The group opens its summer tour in mid-June, and will remain on the amphitheater circuit through early September.
