Briefly: Gwen Stefani, R. Kelly, Warrant, Aldo Nova, Bad Religion
No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani this summer hopes to release the first single from her work-in-progress solo debut.
"I have been in the studio working on my dance record," she wrote in a message posted on her band's website this week. "It has been really challenging but over the last few weeks I have been able to turn a corner. ... [No Doubt bassist] Tony [Kanal] and I have a new track we are working on that is really a mixture of everything we loved growing up: Prince, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, and Club Nouveau.
"I have over 16 songs and plan on writing as many as it takes to make it great. It is starting to feel like a record and I can see it coming together. I am hoping to have a single out some time this summer. I have loads of ideas and tricks up my sleeve so watch out. I'm scared for you."
Prosecutors in Florida lost ground on Thursday (3/11) in their child-pornography case against R&B singer R. Kelly after a judge ruled that detectives had illegally seized photographs that allegedly show Kelly have sex with an underage girl, and that prosecutors can not use the photos in their case against the singer.
Assistant State Attorney Chip Thulberry told the Associated Press that, if prosecutors don't appeal the decision, they'll drop the 12 counts off child pornography with which Kelly is charged.
The victory for Kelly follows a move earlier this month by prosecutors in Chicago--where Kelly is also facing child-porn charges--who dropped seven of the 21 charges with which the singer was originally charged.
Sony/Legacy Recordings on April 13 will issue expanded, remastered versions of Warrant 's "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich" (1989) and "Cherry Pie" (1990), and Aldo Nova's self-titled debut (1982). All three albums will feature bonus tracks and new liner notes not found on the original versions, according to a press release.
Punk rockers Bad Religion will issue remastered versions of their first five albums on April 6, and will also offer up a new tour documentary that same day, according to Epitaph Records. The group also plans to drop a new studio album, titled "The Empire Strikes First," this summer.
