Briefly: Norah Jones, Diana Ross, Vernon Reid, Kanye West, Duran Duran
"Feels Like Home," the sophomore release from singer/pianist Norah Jones seems to feel at home atop of the U.S. album chart.
About 204,000 copies of the album sold during the last week, enough to earn a fourth straight week at No. 1 on The Billboard 200, according to industry sources.
Jessica Simpson's "In This Skin," which was reissued last week with additional tracks and a bonus DVD, jumped from No. 16 to No. 2.
Evanescence's "Fallen" moves up one spot to No. 3, while Kanye West 's "The College Dropout" falls two rungs to No. 4. Rounding out the Top 5 is Kenny Chesney's "When the Sun Goes Down."
A judge reportedly has ordered Diana Ross to return to Tucson, AZ, to serve a two-day jail sentence for drunken driving. Ross, who pleaded no contest to a DUI charge last month, was supposed to have served her sentence in her hometown of Greenwich, CT, but she allegedly served her sentence in several brief stints, failing to serve 24 consecutive hours in jail as Arizona law requires.
Guitar whiz Vernon Reid , best known for his work with Living Colour, has signed with the Favored Nations label, which has set a May 4 release date for the new Vernon Reid & Masque album "Known Unknown."
Reid recorded the set over the last two years, between touring and other commitments. In a statement, Reid said that the album contains a mix of originals and "fractured standards," like the band's take on Thelonious Monk's "Brilliant Corners" and Lee Morgan's "Sidewinder."
Reid is currently touring with Living Colour in Europe. He'll open a Masque tour when he returns; confirmed dates so far include May 20 in Boston (Johnny D's), May 22 in Rochester, NY (Montage Grille), and May 24 in Victoriaville, Quebec (Colisee Des Bois-France).
Kanye West and Young Gunz will be on the bill of the first LIFEbeat Heart and Voices concert, which will benefit the AIDS charity LIFEBeat and the E.A.R.S. Foundation. The show takes place at The Show Night Club in New York City on Thursday (3/11).
The Duran Duran films "Arena" and "Sing Blue Silver"--plus bonus material--will be issued on DVD on May 4.
The Russell Mulcahy-directed "Arena" features footage filmed in 1984 in Oakland, CA. The documentary "Sing Blue Silver" was filmed during the same tour.
