New Beastie Boys album targeted for June release

The Beastie Boys haven't issued a new album in almost six years, but the influential rap trio says it will end the drought this summer.

"I know, you're like 'what's up fool? Where's the record?' Well, we are in the studio finishing it now, so ease up already and don't call me fool, fool," the band said in a note sent to its email list this week. "We're putting the final touches on the mixes right now and it will be out beginning of June."

"So we'll be seeing you in a hot New York minute. Until then cool your jets, step back, relax and ease off the throttle. The s---'s on it's way, no delay. And always remember when things get hot--it's not the heat, it's the humidity."

The as-yet untitled album, which will be the band's sixth, will be the follow-up to 1998's triple-platinum "Hello Nasty." The new set was recorded in New York City.

The Beasties' Mike D, in a recent interview with the BBC, said, "The record that we're making is like a hip-hop record, but that doesn't mean we're only checking for hip-hop right now. Everything we like, that's cool, is going to enter the arena."

He added: "We actually have a British song on our album. You're gonna have to wait and see--just leave it at that. We'll unleash it on you, but it's a very British-centric--whatever you'd call it--type of song."

Last year, the Beasties posted a new anti-war song titled "In a World Gone Mad" on the Internet.
