Robert Randolph & The Family Band back on the road after Grammy appearance
Robert Randolph & The Family Band, who were introduced to the masses during their performance at the Grammy-awards ceremony on Sunday (2/8), are back on the road to support their 2003 album, "Unclassified."
The group launched a co-headlining tour with O.A.R. late last month, and will continue to play scattered dates with O.A.R.--mixed in with some headlining club shows of their own--though February.
"Robert Randolph & the Family Band bring back to live music what has been missing for so long: love, energy, and soul," O.A.R. lead singer Marc Roberge said in a statement issued before the co-headlining tour launched.
Vocalist/pedal-steel virtuoso Randolph and his group participated in a raucous funk medley with Earth, Wind & Fire, Parliament Funkadelic and OutKast at the Grammy awards. Actor Samuel L. Jackson introduced the group as the "new blood" of funk, after which the band launched into its new single, "I Need More Love."
Randolph and his band were nominated for two Grammy Awards, but went home empty-handed on Sunday.
Last year, the group won the W.C. Handy Award for Best Debut Recording, and also won the Jammy Award for Best New Band.
After their current run of dates, Randolph and The Family Band will travel to England to open a series of dates for Eric Clapton.
