Kenny Chesney to keep his show on the road through summer
UPDATED: MARCH 3--Kenny Chesney , who is about to launch his 2004 U.S. headlining tour, will remain on the road into late summer.
Chesney opens the first leg of his run in Louisiana on March 18, the day after he performs at the annual RodeoHouston festival in Texas. A summer amphitheater run follows, and dates are now set until the middle of September.
Keith Urban and Dierks Bentley hold down the opening slots for the tour's first leg, which runs into late May; Rascal Flatts and Kid Rock protege Uncle Kracker then climb on board for the summer shows.
Last month, Chesney released his latest studio set, "When the Sun Goes Down," which is the follow-up to 2002's multi-platinum "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems." The new set features the hit "There Goes My Life."
The new album's title track features Uncle Kracker, who is expected to join Chesney on stage to perform the song during the summer-tour dates.
"... This [new] record really suits what we're trying to do live," Chesney said in a statement. "So aside from some well-chosen surprises, people can expect the songs they love and some songs I know they're going to."
Chesney's busy 2004 tour schedule follows an equally busy 2003 run, during which the country singer sold more concert tickets than all touring acts except Bruce Springsteen and Dave Matthews Band, according to concert-industry trade Pollstar.
