Garth Brooks Crosses Formats With #2 Single Debut
The ballad "Lost in You" by Chris Gaines, the Garth Brooks alter-ego created for a future feature film project about a fictional pop/rock star, shot from #152 to #2 on SoundScan's Top 200 singles chart this week. It's the first commercial single from the album "Garth Brooks in ... The Life of Chris Gaines," (Capitol-Nashville) which will be released on Sept. 28.
The flip side of the single -- another album track titled ''It Don't Matter To The Sun'' -- hit #1 on Billboard's Country Single Sales charts last week.
According to Brooks' label, SoundScan reports that ''Lost in You'' racked up sales of 107,214 units for the week. The song has been receiving heavy airplay on Adult Contemporary, New Adult Contemporary and Top 40 radio stations.
The forthcoming album will be accompanied by a continuation of the media-blitz already in progress. Brooks just finished taping an NBC special, ''Garth Brooks in ... The Life of Chris Gaines,'' which will air on Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific Time. During the special, Garth (as Gaines) play 8 or 9 songs and offer further explanation of the upcoming movie about Gaines' life, ''The Lamb.''
He will also appear on ''The Tonight Show With Jay Leno'' on Sept. 27, ''The Rosie O'Donnell Show'' and ''Late Show With Conan O'Brien'' on Sept. 28, and ''The Today Show'' and CNN's ''Showbiz Today'' on Sept. 29.
Later this fall, Brooks will appear on ''The View'' (airing the week of Oct. 4), ''Good Morning America'' (Oct. 22), and ''The Donny & Marie Show.'' He is also scheduled to perform at the ''GQ Men of the Year Awards,'' which will air on VH1.
It was announced earlier this year that Brooks will executive produce and host a television Christmas movie during the holiday season for CBS. The movie, titled ''Call Me Claus,'' is being produced concurrently with the planned theatrical release of ''The Lamb,'' both for Brooks' Red Strokes Entertainment company.
