Briefly: Aerosmith, Dolly Parton, Luciano Pavarotti, Helmet, 'L.A.' Reid
Aerosmith will headline the Super Bowl XXXVII pre-game show at Houston's Reliant Stadium on Feb. 1, the NFL announced.
It's a return engagement for the band, which co-headlined the Super Bowl XXXV halftime show with 'NSync in Tampa in 2001.
Dolly Parton will host Country Music Television's CMT Flameworthy 2004 Video Music Awards, which take place on April 21 in Nashville and will be televised live by the cable network.
Shania Twain is already scheduled to perform, and other performers will be announced.
Tenor Luciano Pavarotti will launch what's being billed as his final world tour at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace Las Vegas on Feb. 28.
A 66-piece orchestra conducted by Maestro Leone Magiera will accompany Pavarotti. The program "will include Pavarotti's much-loved and most popular repertoire and will feature a special guest soprano," according to a press release.
Tickets go on sale on Friday (2/16) at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, according to Caesars Entertainment.
The first Helmet compilation album, dubbed "Unsung: The Best of Helmet (1991-1997)," is scheduled for release on Jan. 21. It features 21 remastered songs, including selections from each of the band's four albums.
The members of Helmet went their separate ways in late 1998.
Antonio "L.A." Reid, who had headed Arista Records since label founder Clive Davis departed less than four years ago, reportedly has exited the label.
BMG, Arista's parent company, evidently is beginning downsizing in advance of an expected merger with Sony Music, which is on hold pending regulatory approval.
