Briefly: Cee-Lo, Coachella, Grand Royal, Bruce Cockburn
Goodie Mob member Cee-Lo issues his second solo album, dubbed "Cee-Lo Green is the Soul Machine," on March 16, according to Arista Records.
The set's first single, "I'll Be Around," features Timbaland; other guests on the album include Pharrell of The Neptunes and Ludacris.
The fifth annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is set for May 1-2 at Indio, CA's Empire Polo Field, according to promoter Goldenvoice.
Though the event's lineup hasn't been announced, Radiohead is rumored to be headlining one day, and there's been speculation of a Pixies reunion for the festival.
Grand Royal, the defunct Beastie Boys -founded record label that was once home to artists including Luscious Jackson and Ben Lee, among others, is up for sale via an Internet bankruptcy auction.
The label shut down in 2001.
According to Bid4Assets.com, the winner of the auction will own "various master recordings, license agreements, recording agreements" and other miscellaneous contracts. Details are available at the auction site.
Canadian singer/songwriter Bruce Cockburn will be a part of a mission that departs for Iraq on Monday (1/12). The trip will "include visits to hospitals, schools, orphanages, and encampments for those displaced by the war," according to a press release.
"The calamitous situation faced by Iraqis is a human event that needs to be understood by all of us," Cockburn said. "As a songwriter, it goes with the job to bear witness to the human events; as a concerned citizen, I welcome a unique opportunity to gain some of that understanding which I hope to share with others."
