Briefly: Eric Clapton, Ray Davies, OutKast, Cris Kirkwood
Ray Davies of The Kinks and Eric Clapton were declared Commanders of the British Empire on Wednesday (12/31), an honor that's a notch below knighthood.
Queen Elizabeth II honored Clapton and Davies during a Wednesday (12/31) ceremony at London's Buckingham Palace.
Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger were knighted earlier this year.
OutKast 's two-disc set "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" sold 374,000 copies during its most recent week in stores, again returning to the top spot on The Billboard 200 album chart, according to industry sources.
The album, which was at No. 4 last week, has now spent three separate stretches at No. 1 during its 14 weeks in stores.
Dropping a notch apiece are "The Diary of Alicia Keys " (to No. 2), Toby Keith's "Shock'N Y'all" (to No. 3) and the hits compilation "NOW That's What I Call Music Vol. 14" (to No. 4).
"The Very Best of Sheryl Crow" jumped two spots to round out the Top 5.
Former Meat Puppets bassist Cris Kirkwood, who was shot by a security guard last week, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the dispute, according to the Arizona Republic. Kirkwood, who reportedly made his Tuesday (12/30) appearance in a Phoenix federal courtroom in a wheelchair and hospital gown, spent the night at a federal detention facility. A Wednesday (12/31) hearing reportedly will determine whether he can be released on bond.
Kirkwood was admitted to a Phoenix hospital on Friday (12/26) with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Witnesses reportedly said he was shot by a security guard after he allegedly took a baton from the guard and began to hit her with it.
