Diana Krall maps spring tour of Canada, readies new album
Canadian native Diana Krall plans to spend the month of May on a tour of her homeland that will support her forthcoming album.
The jazz singer/pianist's itinerary begins with a three-night stand in Calgary on May 2-4. Multiple shows are also planned in Saskatoon, Regina, Toronto and Ottawa.
Krall's outing follows the late-April release of "The Girl in the Other Room," the follow-up to 2001's "The Look of Love." The set features original compositions from Krall, as well as six songs that she co-wrote with husband Elvis Costello (the two wed on Dec. 6 at Elton John's mansion in Surrey, England, according to reports).
Also included on the album are Krall's interpretations of Mose Allison's "Stop This World," Joni Mitchell's "Black Crow" and Costello's "Almost Blue." In March, Verve Records plans to release as the album's first single, Krall's cover of Tom Waits' "Tempatation," according to a press release.
Krall co-produced the forthcoming album with three-time GRAMMY® winner Tommy LiPuma. Backing her on the set are Anthony Wilson (guitar), Christian McBride (bass), John Clayton (bass), Peter Erskine (drums), Jeff Hamilton (drums) and Terry Lyne Carrington (drums).
Last year, Krall released her first live album, "Live in Paris." The set won her the GRAMMY for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
In 1999, Krall won the GRAMMY for Best Jazz Vocal Performance for her platinum-selling album "When I Look in Your Eyes." That same year, she became the first jazz artist in 25 years to be nominated for a GRAMMY in the Album of the Year category.
