Everlast signs with Island Def Jam, readies new album
Everlast , last heard from on 2000's commercially disappointing "Eat at Whitey's," has found a new home for his hybrid blend of blues and hip-hop.
The former House of Pain frontman plans to issue his debut set for Island Def Jam Music Group early next year, according to the label; a title and specific release date remain pending.
Everlast is currently at work on the album, which he is recording in New York and Los Angeles, and is co-producing the set with longtime collaborator Dante Ross. The two have already completed the cut "White Trash Beautiful," which is streaming at MSN Entertainment's website.
"Eat at Whitey's" followed Everlast's 1998 breakthrough, "Whitey Ford Sings the Blues," which featured the runaway hit "What It's Like." The song helped spur sales of "Whitey Ford Sings the Blues" past the 2 million mark; "Eat at Whitey's" did about one-fourth that number.
Tommy Boy Records, which released both albums, sold its catalog to Warner Bros. last year, a move that left Everlast without a label.
Island/Def Jam recently launched a new Everlast website, where it plans to post music from his forthcoming album.
