Bruce Springsteen logs 2003's top-grossing tour
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band took in nearly $116 million in North America this year, easily topping concert trade-magazine Pollstar's annual list of top-grossing live acts.
Springsteen's tour, which visited 30 cities in the U.S. and Canada, was the second-best grossing concert outing in history, topped only by The Rolling Stones' $121.2 million gross in 1994, according to Pollstar's research.
Celine Dion , who played 145 concerts at a Las Vegas venue built specifically for her at Caesar's Palace, ranks second on the 2003 list with a gross of $80.5 million.
Veteran rock acts dominate the remainder of the Top 10, with The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Simon & Garfunkel, the Aerosmith/KISS co-headlining tour and the Billy Joel/Elton John co-headlining outing all grossing more than $50 million.
Cher 's farewell tour grossed $68.2 million, according to Pollstar.
Despite a controversial year, the Dixie Chicks grossed $60.5 million and are the only country act to appear in the Top 10. Toby Keith ($44.2 million), Shania Twain ($40.8 million), Kenny Chesney ($34.5 million) and Tim McGraw ($37.2 million) all make the Top 20, however.
The Summer Sanitarium tour, an outing headed up by Metallica that also featured Limp Bizkit, Deftones and Mudvayne, grossed $48.8 million to round out Pollstar's Top 10.
The only pop-oriented tour to crack the Top 20 was the co-headlining jaunt by Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera, which took in $31.8 million, according to Pollstar.
Also appearing in the Top 20 were the Dave Matthews Band ($47.1 million), The Rolling Stones ($38.5 million), Phish ($35.8 million), Jimmy Buffett ($29.3 million) and Pearl Jam ($29.1 million).
High ticket prices didn't seem to keep fans from seeing concerts in the Top 20; according to Pollstar, the average ticket price was more than $100 for five acts in the group: The Stones ($158), Simon & Garfunkel ($137), Celine Dion ($136), Billy Joel/Elton John ($109) and The Eagles ($108).
Pollstar found that the average ticket price was below $50 for four acts in the Top 20: Kenny Chesney ($36), Toby Keith ($38), Dave Matthews Band ($44) and Phish ($47).
