Ozzy Osbourne's condition slowly improves
Ozzy Osbourne 's condition is slowly improving as he continues to recover in intensive care from injuries he suffered in a Monday (12/8) all-terrain vehicle accident and the surgery that followed.
"Mr. Osbourne had a good, comfortable night," said a statement issued on Friday (12/12) by Dr. Dick Jack, medical director at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, England. "He is progressing well, but slowly. With each day he becomes less dependent on the ventilator. It is still too early to take him off entirely. Otherwise he is well, with no complications."
In the accident--which occurred while he was riding an ATV on his property in Buckinghamshire, England--Osbourne suffered eight broken ribs, a broken collarbone and a cracked vertebra in his neck. Doctors restored circulation to Osbourne's left arm, which was damaged by pressure from his broken collarbone, during Monday's surgery
In an interview published on Friday by London's Daily Mirror tabloid, Ozzy's wife, Sharon Osbourne, was quoted as saying that Ozzy stopped breathing and his heart stopped beating after the crash. She said he was revived by a security guard who was with him at the time of the accident.
"He had stopped breathing and the guard spotted it immediately," she reportedly said. "He had stopped breathing for a minute and a half and there was no pulse. But thank God, the security guard was there to revive him. He resuscitated him and got him breathing and his pulse going again. We are so, so grateful to him."
She added that Ozzy apparently crashed when riding over uneven ground, and the ATV landed on top of him, according to the Mirror's report.
