Briefly: Indigo Girls, Tony Bennett, John Oates, The Bottom Line, Jason Newsted
"All That We Let In," the ninth studio album from folk-rock duo Indigo Girls , is set for release on Feb. 17, according to Epic Records.
The set was produced by Peter Collins, who also turned the knobs on "Become You," the most-recent Indigo Girls album. He also produced 1994's "Swamp Ophelia."
Singer-guitarists Amy Ray and Emily Saliers are augmented on the album by their longtime backing band of bassist Clare Kenny, keyboardist Carol Isaacs and drummer Brady Blade. Joan Osborne contributes back-up vocals to three tracks.
Crooner Tony Bennett is scheduled to perform at a pair of New York City fundraising events for Rep. Dick Gephardt on Dec. 11 to support the Missouri representative's campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.
He'll first appear at a dinner reception to be held at an undisclosed private townhouse in Manhattan, then will move on to an event at The Canal Room.
Tickets for The Canal Room event are $50 each, and students get a $25 discount, according to a press release. For further information, contact the Gephardt New York office at 212-696-5125.
John Oates , half of the pop duo Hall and Oates, has re-released his debut solo album, titled "Phunk Shui." The set was first released in August of 2002, but "the album was the victim of the untimely demise of its original label," according to a press release.
Oates has also announced plans to release a DVD in early February of 2004, which will feature a sold-out, solo concert that was taped last December in his home town of Aspen, CO.
Despite support from high-profile backers including Bruce Springsteen and Sirius Satellite Radio, a New York City judge has ordered New York City club The Bottom Line to leave its home of nearly 30 years.
New York University--which owns the building that houses the club--began eviction proceedings earlier this year, reportedly after the venue fell nearly $200,000 behind in rent. NYU and the club's owners have since been unable to work out a long-term lease.
Bassist Jason Newsted has quit his gig with Ozzy Osbourne's band, according to an MTV report. Newsted, who left Metallica in January of 2001, joined Osbourne's group last year after Osbourne's then-bassist, Robert Trujillo, left to replace Newsted in Metallica.
Osbourne reportedly has recruited former Rob Zombie bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson to take over for Newsted. Newsted, meanwhile, hasn't commented on the split, but reportedly plans to focus on his other group, Voivod.
