Erykah Badu rolls out tour behind 'Worldwide Underground'
R&B artist Erykah Badu backs her latest album with an early-2004 road trip makes stops at theaters throughout the U.S.
Badu launches the run with a two-night stand at the New Orleans House of Blues on Feb. 3-4, and dates stretch into mid-March. In addition to its many U.S. stops, the itinerary includes one Canadian date.
The outing supports Badu's September release, "Worldwide Underground," which features the track "Danger." Guests on the album include Lenny Kravitz, Angie Stone and Queen Latifah. Badu co-produced the set with her production team, Freakquency.
"Worldwide Underground" grew out of Badu's 2002 tour, which she dubbed the "Frustrated Artist Tour."
"I named it that because I was so frustrated because I could not think of anything to write," she said in a press release. "So finally I decided to go on a tour. Just do clubs. Go back to the essence of the underground. The people, the fans brought the energy I needed to create 'Worldwide Underground.'"
Despite featuring 10 tracks and a running time of about 50-minutes--longer than her previous studio set, 2000's "Mama's Gun"--"Worldwide Underground" is billed as an EP. Track lengths vary drastically, with the longest clocking in at almost 11 minutes.
"I wasn't thinking airplay," she said in a press release. "I wasn't thinking singles, I just wanted to groove, and groove for a long time."
Badu burst onto the scene with her 1997, multi-platinum debut, "Baduizm."
