B.B. King sings the blues this winter
Based on his latest tour itinerary, blues legend B.B. King --who recently celebrated his 78th birthday--has no plans to slow down.
King has dates scheduled through the end of November, then catches his breath for most of December; he'll play a pair of early December shows at his eponymous New York City club, then a handful of dates to close out the year, including a New Year's Eve performance in Miami.
King kicks off his 2004 roadwork on Jan. 2, and has lined up dates throughout the East Coast for much of that month.
The outing backs King's latest album, "Reflections," which surfaced in June. Included on the set are three songs that Louis Armstrong once recorded, as well as tracks previously recorded by Nat King Cole, Sam Cooke, Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson and others.
Despite his advancing age, King continues to play well over 100 concerts per year. During his 60-year recording career, King--who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987--has released more than 50 albums.
Last month, The Royal Swedish Academy of Music awarded King the 2004 Polar Music Prize. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden will present the award to King during a ceremony in Stockholm next May. More information is posted at King's website.
