Briefly: Britney Spears, Courtney Love, Tony Thompson, Justin Timberlake, Jethro Tull
Britney Spears has kicked off a slew of promotional activity behind her forthcoming album, "In the Zone," which is due in stores on Tuesday (11/18).
Spears' upcoming TV appearances include "Primetime Live" (11/13), "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (11/13), MTV's "In The Zone & Out All Night" (11/15), American Music Awards (11/16), "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (11/17), MTV's "TRL" (11/18) and "Live with Regis and Kelly" (11/24).
After telling reporters before a Wednesday (11/13) court appearance that the charges were "retarded," Courtney Love pleaded not guilty on Wednesday (11/13) to two felony drug counts.
"I didn't even break a law," Love reportedly said. "I didn't even shoplift."
Police said that when they were called to Love's Beverly Hills, CA, home after a report of a drug overdose, they found two legal painkillers--hydrocodone and oxycodone--for which Love had no prescription.
Tony Thompson, a top session drummer who was a former member of disco band Chic, died of renal cancer on Wednesday (11/12) in Los Angeles. Thompson, who been diagnosed with the kidney disease only recently, was 48.
After Chic split in the early '80s, Thompson played drums for artists including Madonna, Mick Jagger and David Bowie. He was also a member of Powerstation, a band that featured Duran Duran's Andy and John Taylor and the late Robert Palmer.
Justin Timberlake opened Chi, a new restaurant in West Hollywood, CA, this week.
Jethro Tull 's music was banned from the airwaves of New Jersey classic-rock station WCHR-FM after frontman Ian Anderson, in an interview with the Asbury Park Press, criticized what he considers gratuitous displays of the American flag.
"I hate to see the American flag hanging out of every bloody station wagon, out of every SUV, every little Midwestern house in some residential area," Anderson was quoted as saying. "It's easy to confuse patriotism with nationalism. Flag waving ain't gonna do it."
