Jack Bruce recovering after liver transplant complications
Jack Bruce --best known for his work as bassist and vocalist with '60s rock group Cream --nearly died following a recent liver transplant, but is now recovering, according to a statement issued by his label.
The Scottish musician, 60, was diagnosed with liver cancer this summer, and underwent the transplant on Sept. 19 in England. His body rejected the new liver, which resulted in infection and kidney failure, the Bruce family said in a statement.
"... After being very critical for a period in which we almost lost him, Jack is now making a successful recovery," the statement said. "The whole family is very relieved that Jack will be with us for many years and obviously we are looking forward to more new songs, concerts and records to come!"
Sanctuary Records released Bruce's latest album, "More Jack than God," in September.
"The pictures in the album booklet could well have been the last pictures of Jack," the family's statement said. "He has proved us wrong, after all, he is a strong Scotsman!"
Bruce, along with former Cream bandmates Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
