Briefly: Ozzy Osbourne, Ludacris, Guns N' Roses, Aimee Mann, U2
On the advice of his doctors, Ozzy Osbourne has postponed his upcoming European tour, which was scheduled to open in Dublin on Oct. 22, according to a press release.
"I have been in Boston for the last three weeks having medical tests for a tremor which has become markedly worse over the last two years," Osbourne said in a statement. "I was at the point where it felt as if this problem was practically destroying my life along with my self-esteem. I was no longer comfortable being around people, which, as you can imagine, is not the best trait for a performer. I am grateful to my physician, Dr. Allan H. Ropper, that I am now home with my family and on the path to getting my life back."
Dr. Ropper, in a statement, said: "Ozzy Osbourne does not have Parkinson's Disease. However, he does have a tremor, which is coming under control with medication. Unfortunately, one of the side effects of the medication is dry mouth, which greatly impairs the voice. This problem usually subsides after three to four weeks, but the downside is that this will definitely affect Mr. Osbourne's ability to sing at this time."
"Chicken & Beer," the third album from rapper Ludacris , sold nearly 430,000 copies during its first week in stores and tops the latest Billboard 200 album chart, according to industry sources. OutKast's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" falls to No. 2 after spending two weeks in the top slot. The Elvis Presley compilation "Elvis 2nd to None" enters at No. 3.
Geffen records will issue a DVD version of the 1998 Guns N' Roses video "Welcome to the Videos" on Oct. 28, along with DVDs of the 1992 home videos "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II: World Tour--1992 in Toyko."
A special edition of singer-songwriter Aimee Mann 's "Lost in Space" will be released on Nov. 18. Besides the original album, the book-bound package includes additional artwork and a second disc featuring 10 new tracks--six live, two b-sides and two previously unreleased--as well as the "Pavlov's Bell" video.
From U2 's publicity firm: "Contrary to recent press reports Principle Management wishes to make clear that neither Bono nor U2 are suing Nancy Sinatra over her use of their song 'Two Shots of Happy One Shot of Sad.' There is no truth whatsoever in the story. U2 had hoped that Frank Sinatra would one day cover the song, which they released as a b-side in December 1997. The track has now been covered by Nancy Sinatra with U2's full knowledge and will appear on her forthcoming album. Any press quotes attributed to U2's manager Paul McGuinness on this matter are untrue."
