John Mellencamp, George Jones join Johnny Cash tribute

The latest additions to the lineup for Nov. 10's Johnny Cash Memorial Tribute in Nashville are John Mellencamp and George Jones , according to organizers. They join previously announced acts Willie Nelson , Kris Kristofferson, Hank Williams Jr., Sheryl Crow , Jack Clement, Steve Earle, Dwight Yoakam and Larry Gatlin.

The show takes place at Ryman Auditorium, the former home of the Grand Ole Opry. The Ryman was also where Cash taped his primetime variety show, which aired on network television from 1969 to 1971.

A limited number of free tickets will be distributed to the public through a lottery system, and no tickets will be sold. For a chance to attend, fans should send a 3-and-a-half- by 5-inch card or paper with their name, address and daytime telephone number to Johnny Cash Memorial Tribute, P.O. Box 20003, Nashville, TN 37202.

One entry is allowed per person, and all entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Oct. 26, according to organizers. Winners--who will be chosen in a drawing and notified by phone on or before Oct. 31-- each will receive two reserved tickets.

The Ryman Auditorium seats fewer than 2,500 people.

A private funeral for Cash took place on Sept. 15. The public memorial reportedly was delayed because the entire Cash family wanted to take part. Cash's son John Carter Cash is touring Europe though early November, according to the Nashville Tennessean.

Cash died on Sept. 12 of respiratory failure due to complications from diabetes, after years of declining health. His wife, June Carter Cash, died in May.
