Senior citizen B.B. King keeps up youthful touring schedule

Blues legend B.B. King , who last month celebrated his 78th birthday, is opting for the stage instead of the retirement home.

The singer-guitarist will spend most of what's left of 2003 on an ambitious tour that is booked into theater-sized venues throughout the U.S., and will likely remain on the road next year, as evidenced by a pair of confirmed January 2004 concerts.

King is backing his latest album, "Reflections," which surfaced in June. The album includes three songs previously recorded by Louis Armstrong, as well as songs that have been recorded by Nat King Cole, Sam Cooke, Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson and others.

With his 80th birthday looming on the not-so-distant horizon, King continues to play well over 100 concerts per year. During his 60-year recording career, King--who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987--has released more than 50 albums.

In August, Rolling Stone magazine ranked King at No. 3 on the magazine's list of the greatest guitarists of all time. Jimi Hendrix topped the list.
