West Coast dates on tap for globetrotting rockers Santana
Rock legends Santana tour the Far East in early November, and follow that long-distance trip with a short series of West Coast dates.
The North American jaunt includes stops in Vancouver; Tacoma, WA; Portland, OR; and Sacramento, CA. Los Mosocos--a San Francisco sextet with a sound that combines salsa, ska, hip-hop and funk--opens on all dates.
Led by ace guitarist Carlos Santana, Santana is touring in support of its 2002 double-platinum album, "Shaman."
Santana teamed with a roster of high-powered guest artists on "Shaman," including Seal, Dido, Macy Gray, P.O.D. and Michelle Branch. It's the same formula that Santana used on its 1999 comeback album "Supernatural," which has sold 14 million copies.
In February, the "Shaman" track "The Game of Love," featuring Branch, won the GRAMMY® Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
Santana dominated the 2000 GRAMMY Awards ceremony with "Supernatural," claiming eight trophies to tie a record set by Michael Jackson in 1983.
Carlos Santana and his wife, Deborah, donated the proceeds from Santana's June-July tour to the AIDS organization Artists for a New South Africa. They presented the organization with a check for $2.5 million in August.
On Monday (10/6), Carlos Santana will team with NFL kickers Martin Gramatica of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Bill Gramatica of the Arizona Cardinals on the ABC-TV "Monday Night Football" competition "Monday Night Football at the Mic." Santana and the Gramatica brothers are pitted against St. Louis Rams offensive tackle Kyle Turley and rockers 3 Doors Down.
During select halftimes this season, NFL football players will perform with various star musicians, and fans will vote on their favorites via the Internet.
