Briefly: Metallica, Jay-Z, Coldplay, Madonna, The Polyphonic Spree
Metallica --a band that regularly fills arenas--will play a New Year's Eve show at The Joint, a small club inside the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.
Tickets go on sale at noon Pacific Time on Saturday (9/27), according to the band's official website.
Jay-Z -- who releases what he says will be his final solo album, "The Black Album," on Nov. 28--will launch his promotional tour by playing a benefit show at New York's Madison Square Garden.
Proceeds from the Nov. 25 concert will benefit the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund, according to a press release.
"Coldplay Live 2003," a DVD/CD combo recorded at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion on July 21 and 22, is scheduled to hit stores on Nov. 4.
The 90-minute DVD, directed by Russell Thomas, captured concert highlights on super-16 film using nine cameras. It includes the new track "Moses" and two tracks previously unreleased in the U.S.: "One I Love" and "See You Soon." The DVD also includes a 40-minute tour-diary documentary.
The 70-minute audio CD features an edited version of the Sydney concerts, including the new and previously unreleased tracks, as well as CD ROM access to a photo gallery.
Madonna 's children's book "The English Roses" will enter The New York Times Children's best-seller list at No. 1 on Oct. 5, according to Callaway Editions. The book debuted Thursday (9/25) on the USA Today best-seller list at No. 7 among all books sold in the U.S. last week.
The Polyphonic Spree issues a limited-edition EP titled "Light & Day" on Sept. 30. The set includes the re-recorded U.K. version of "Light & Day," which is currently featured in an iPod/Volkswagen television commercial.
The EP--which will be available at select independent record stores and at the band's upcoming shows--also features "The March" and a Stereolab remix of the song "Soldier Girl."
