Johnny Cash public memorial and concert planned for November

A memorial service and concert in honor of country great Johnny Cash has been scheduled for Nov. 12 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, the former home of the Grand Ole Opry.

The Ryman was also where Cash taped his primetime variety show, which aired on network television from 1969 to 1971.

According to Nashville newspaper The Tennessean, the concert's lineup and information about tickets will be made public during the next several weeks. The venue seats fewer than 2,500 people, and there are no plans to televise the memorial.

The show may be taped for later television specials about Cash, and a Cash family spokesman told The Tennessean that "some of the music industry's top stars" are expected to perform or otherwise participate in the event.

A private funeral for Cash took place on Sept. 15. The public memorial reportedly was delayed because the entire Cash family wanted to take part. Cash's son John Carter Cash is touring Europe though early November.

Cash died on Sept. 12 after years of declining health.
