Barbra Streisand's new album tackles her favorite movie songs

Barbra Streisand releases "The Movie Album," a collection of her favorite songs from films spanning from 1935 to 1988, on Oct. 14.

The album, Streisand's 60th, features 12 new recordings, most of which she produced herself. Three tracks--"Moon River," "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?" and "Calling You"--were produced with Robbie Buchanan and one song--"Emily"--was produced with composer/arranger Johnny Mandel, according to Columbia Records.

Streisand is backed on each song in the set by a full band and a 75-piece orchestra. Among the arrangers on the album were Johnny Mandel, Jeremy Lubbock, and Jorge Calandrelli.

The album's package includes song-by-song annotations by Streisand, who dedicates the set to Gregory Peck, "a screen legend who in real life possessed all the humanity and dignity he brought to his career-defining roles," she writes.

A collector's edition of "The Movie Album"--which will be available "for a limited time," according to Columbia--includes a bonus DVD featuring videos of Streisand performing "I'm In The Mood For Love" and "Wild is the Wind," as well as "an in-depth exclusive audio commentary with the artist."
